With customer expectations and demands for seamless shopping experiences continuously getting higher in an increasingly complex and competitive online retail market, the role that internet platforms and devices play in a retailer’s multi-channel shopping strategy has never been more crucial for the ecommerce sector. This session will look at how customers are driving changes to the ecommerce sector and at the role of online platforms.

How are ecommerce players, ranging from SMEs to the large multinationals, reacting to evolving consumer needs as well and how is the industry attempting to shape these needs? How can the policy approach both respond to consumer needs and does not prevent European industry players from maximizing the opportunities offered by the digital economy but, instead, encourage the future development of e-commerce?

Safe, innovative and user-friendly online payment systems are vital elements to the full realisation of ecommerce’s potential in Europe.

Building trust and confidence, supporting new commercial opportunities and business models, offering greater consumer choice as well as ensuring interoperability between payment systems in different Member States are essentials issues to foster cross-border ecommerce, and, ultimately to the successful completion of the Digital Single Market.
