Session 2: E-Commerce in Europe - 1 global site or 27 national sites?
The growth of online sales in Europe has brought about the necessary re-assessment of related policy. Practically speaking, businesses and consumers buying and selling online face numerous hurdles that are distinct to this trading environment. This session will address some of the most pertinent issues confronting e-traders and their customers, such as the cultural, social, legal, technical and infrastructure-related dimensions. How can e-commerce in Europe be best facilitated and how do the major players intend to address these issues. How should complaints for instance be handled given such a broad multi-cultural consumer base and what are the practical issues for the logistics sector.

What policy options are available and are there additional areas where the EU should be focussing its attention? Session 4: Digital content and services: benefits of a European Digital Single Market
European Commission acknowledges the significant benefits that a more integrated online internal market for goods and services would bring to Europe’s consumers. Indeed the achievement of a Digital Single Market through the measures set down in the Commission’s own Digital Agenda is a cornerstone of the goals of the Barroso II Commission. This session will focus on the key issue of how the achievement of a Digital Single Market will enhance consumer confidence in the online environment and look at both marketplace and policy solutions to achieving a true single market for online consumers. Will policy drive us to a Digital Single Market or will business overcome existing barriers to reach their consumers?
